Have you got brush marks or did they fade away before it dried? I've brushed an old van before, but it was in red oxide so it didn't matter.

They faded away... with the mix right brush marks didnt occur at all really... possibly more runs to catch as the brush holds more paint... but for the first few coats I was working the brush quite alot.. covering a panel with paint and then working it in.. theres a point at which you stop just before it gets tacky but by working it in I get rid of runs and the paint still flattens not leaving brush marks.

You can get more on with a brush but it'll take an absolute age to go off then. Better by far to build it up with very thin coats. There are no shortcuts in that respect. Brush can be useful up under gutter lines though.

Got my first coat on today!!!!! Sooo stoked looks amazing! Barely needs another coat finish is so good but i obviously will. Raining now but looks like its dryed in time okay. Is it okay to drive 7/8 hours after painting?

Yes providing theres something for paint to key to. Love the "bugger removing aerial, I'll just stick it to windscreen" bit.

I've just got in from painting the front and doors of Doris, fingers crossed. I've taken quite few pictures but one of the 'monsters' has lost my LG Suite cd so I can't get them from my phone at the moment. Panels should arrive Tuesday so then I'll have coverings to apply. Anyone here carpeted the interior fully? Could it end in tears? Rob

Well, I know it's not a wagon but it is going to be towed behind one and it is painted with Rustoleum and a roller. Not done any flatting and polishing, just left it as-is (it is a trailer after all ). Got all my info on techniques and suppliers from this thread so thanks for your help.

painted my old T4 with military vehicle paint, looked ok to me!!
i do love the 25`s in matt black tho

Yes you could do matt black but you'll need to spend an age stirring paint to ensure its consistent.

i can't believe you can do a whole side in 10 mins!!!!! that's cool I was thinking i was going to have to do a panel at a time but seeing this makes me think i can do a full coat

hoping to sand it all down on the friday, fill on the saturday and full coat on the sunday then subsequent coats and sanding in following weeks.

does the dvd detail thinning and sanding?

Hi All!

Just finished my first coat on Pitufina (Smurfette). Haven't flat back yet, I will try to wait at least five days, I would like to wait more, but holidays are running out and i want to finish at least two coats....and there is nice weather, like 23*C and sun, so i hope is ok!

I know i could have used more time on filling, but i chose to apply vactan and rustoleum straight to steel to protect it from rust, which is my main goal here in the north. Probably I can use some filler before 3rd and 4th coat? Also as you will see, I am not the best on using filler! But a lot of sanding kind of fix the lack of ability!

Im posting just couple of pictures here, but you can go to the album page in photobucket and see the whole process (the before, grinding, vactan, sanding, filling, sanding again, tape, paint, etc) including the nasty rust from before, and some insects trapped in the fresh paint. (You have to go from end to beginning in the album for the correct order of pictures)

I will be doing second coat next week, so comments and questions are welcome!

I used 20% paint mix (1 thinner + 4 rustoleum), got a lot of bubbles, but the dry brush technique worked very good, i think. Thanks for this thread again!

PS: This is RAL 5012, which is darker and definitely very blue as they mentioned before! originally on my van was LH5G. Roof is white RAL 9010 and rims will go the same. Bumpers Black.
