Powder coating suspension and bash plates is a total waste of money. Once the coating cracks the water will soak its way in and stay there and cause more damage much quicker ....

or the matching 1980's trailer tent with the optional awnig seperating the humble sleeping area and a huge enclosed space, with roll up sides.
but in the real world what is the most peaple have paid for these vans we all see £15k as to what peolpe value say they would sell them at but what have people truely paid for them? £15k these days sceam a bit steap in my eyes. as for what the americans will pay for one i could not realy justify the way i treat mine if it had that sort of value.

Am actually considering a teardrop trailer or to modify my trailer or a box trailer. Thing is I don't want a big thing on the back. I got into vans because of the freedom it gives you. Towing a caravan is a pain. I tow a wee trailer which is great for carting the camping gear and bikes but would be better if I could stick boys in it to sleep.

Yeah - Maybe galvanising would be a better option although I don't treat mine like some of you guys do. It gets to play on a muddy field and the occasional loch bank but not much else so is unlikely to crack for a while. Just trying to save it from the salt. I do use it in the winter because it is soooo much fun in the snow and is great to get into a warm van when out and about in the winter.

Importing into Canada then the US is no longer viable as the laws were tightened up a while ago.
Importing into the US is just costly. When i was doing research into this wot i found out was: You have to use a registered import company at a cost of £1000 +
As a petrol engine goes it will depend on wot state the person who wants the van lives in. As some have very strict smog tests that a lot of vehicles will not pass and as such are illegal. If a vehicle is not imported through the correct channels into the US from the start it becomes impossible to register it and as such becomes an illegal vehicle. I Know of a few cases were vehicles have then had to be striped for parts due to not using the correct import channels.
Canada is becoming difficult to import into as-well. I was reading the other day on an official site that you can only import into Canada now if the vehicle is fitted with a same make engine and this must be indicated on the documents?

The van by the OP is probably worth it as its what the van for sale owes the seller maybe, and people over there might appreciate that? Its different here I guess where you can see people who have bought a sh!tter for a few hundred quid, spent every spare penny they have earned for a couple of years on it and it being worth about half of their investment. A few people are still keeping grounded like Lloydy :lol:

Remember chaps try and see your van like a house, the more it becomes negative equity the more you think it is worth will get you laughed at when you try to sell it. :tsk

People who build them for actual long haul trips of corse are excluded for there overspend as they get their investment back in the time away overseas in unusual places with family and friends :wink:

Nah, i know what mines worth, reckon i'm about evens on spend vs value. But i'm gonna spend more :roll:
thing is i could go and spend 10k on a proper resto, gearbox and tdi conversion, but it will only be worth about 2k more than now. But i didnt buy the van as a profit making exercise

Exclusivity always comes at a price, and if I had the dosh getting something like slobbos vr6 would be very appealing. The money spent on it is a sort of investment as the Syncro's do not depreciate in the same way as a new car.

We have done nearly 6000 miles (9000km)already since January and have spent a month in the bus in that time and it would be easy to think that the syncro is really too small now. We wont change it though, it will be easier to wait for the kids to grow (4 more years of kids holidays then we are back on our own!). We just do things a little different to when we first went touring .I just cant think of a replacement that would be a viable option.

yeh 25 sems like the magic number (15) in canada as russle says try do it with a registered inmport/exporter like autostad...and smog etc differs from state to state...i beleve FL to be one of the more liberal states..still allow smoking in the bars ..so im sure they will let an old smokey tdi through the doors :D ...unlike CA :(

Love it. I'm guessing it would be real easy to add a compressor to the VR6 for some air con (is there room?). What is the UK price? 20K? I recently sold my Syncro for an old Type 2 Westy but having been stuck on the beach I'm starting to regret it.

Yeah wouldn't be too hard to add a compressor. Would need to move some stuff around and make up a bracket but should fit. Problem is how you get the cold air into the cab. Could feed it in the back I guess but wouldn't get cold air up front.

UK price. £20k would be nice. You offering?

Real easy. Just some 10mm ish diameter pipes to a few various bits then to a dash evaporator (or similar location). There's loads of different universal ones available so you can have overhead, underdash, in-dash etc.

It's fab but I'd want to change the interior to my own personal taste (think dodgy 70s) and would add aircon so would get mighty expensive I think.

Yours might be the last one standing in the end with it's galvanised body. What work has been done on the bodywork if any?
