Hi,
Am I right in my leisure Battery powering my all in Sat.Nav/CD player?
I'm a bit concerned after using Sat Nav for couple of hours have found Leisure battery
short of juice.
Is it better to resupply from Starter Battery instead and will this affect using Cd etc.
when stopped?
Leisure Battery is actually a new car battery.
Split Charge is from a Zig unit.
Thanks,
Chris

Your alternator should be charging the leisure battery via your zig unit as you're driving. It should be supplying enough extra juice to power your sat nav & stereo at the same time. Your satnav probably only draws less than an amp of power so if your leisure battery is going flat it's not getting any juice from the alternator.

WHS.......the zig unit should easily be keeping up with recharging the leisure battery.

Re: sat nav/cd player
I run a totally 12v system and everything comes off the leisure pretty much. The real trick is being careful about what you buy and being obsessive about current consumption (read specs carefully) - get that right and make the right purchases and you'll have no probs. The issues only really start when people try to fit daft stuff like big flatscreens and wotnot. I can sit in mine for a whole weekend with LED lighting supplemented by AA-powered lanterns and plug my laptop in via a 12v-19v convertor probably for several days without a recharge. Mines only an 85 amphour batt but keeps up fine.
As said, alternator keeps up ok when driving and leisure should supply all you need providing you're not running electric irons etc
I also use a small solar panel for trickle charging leisure when parked up during the day. Leisure batteries much better for long draw than car batteries by the way. I could flatten my car battery in 45 mins on stereo alone.

Re: sat nav/cd player
Thanks for all your help.
Going to trace output from Alternator as suggested and have
a look at Zig unit with my new Multimeter, once I can understand it!
The Solar Power panel is interesting might try it when funds allow, until
then must sort this charging out.
At the risk of being completely computer illiterate, what does WHS mean?!
Atb,
Chris

Have you been driving around with the zig set to "touring" instead of "car"? I think the leisure battery is isolated from the alternator if you have, so won't have been charging.

Re: sat nav/cd player
Well the Zig unit has three switches,
Top row :- mains. Charging. 12v
OFF. Touring. OFF
Bottom :- ON. on site. ON
When driving, All three switches are set to top position.
When hooked up all in bottom position.
Not on hook up Mains Off and other two on,bottom position.
Need to understand this multimeter and give everything a good check.
Hey ho.
