Travelling issue

Hi guys, we are taking our camper over to Brittany in August. We are taking our daughters, age 13 and 12 and our son who is almost 18. My problem is that I am getting quite stressed over the seatbelt issue. We have two lapstraps in the back, which I would like to replace with 3-point straps and a lapbelt between but am struggling to find someone willing to do it round here (Stone, Staffordshire) without having to pay a small fortune.

I would normally be able to live with lapstraps, but my kids are tall, and if we were involved in an accident then one of them would hit their head on the cupboard in front. Being rather fond of them, I thought that would be a shame.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, I have thought of making them wear a helmet :shock: , but not cool, in fact, a bit silly! Also thought of taking the cupboard out, to minimise risk, but don't really want to do that.

What do others do? I can't be the only person who has this problem? Hubby thinks I'm stressing and it'll all be fine....

what sort of van have you got ie is it a caravelle or converted panel van? what interior is in it ?? brickwerks sell 3 point belts!

there is a company called QUICK FIT that do belts to fit and supply fitting pictures to help...they are very helpful..
in too deep to quit now....

Oh dear, I have no idea about any of those things!! How do I tell if it's a converted panel van? Will it say on the registration doc? The interior has a full width bed with a little wardrobe thingy on the sliding door side. Cupboards are just the two - one houses the grill/hob and the other the fridge with the sink on top. She was born in 1988 and is a high top.

Don't know if that makes you any the wiser?

Probably right - but would like to know if there are other less painful options than him being right :wink:

Hmmm, yeah, but then I'd have to get them fitted..... ideally would like to find somewhere nearby that can fit them, and that I can trust to do it proper like.
Sadly we do not have the skills ourselves....

is it the same interior set up as mine?cupboards on passenger side and cooker behind drivers seat?if it is i moved cooker to passenger side.look on general chat for blodwen and theres pics on there of my interior(along with a load of rubbish thrown on top).i have lapbelts in mine

Yeh, it's quite similar - only we have a full width bed as the unit on the door side isn't there, just the cupboard at the back. Think I'll just chill, and go with the flow. Maybe sort it out for next year as we are planning on getting the bodywork done over the winter, so that would probably be a good time to sort the seatbelts out.

We replaced a frayed lapbelt in ours last year. we picked up a seatbelt for a few quid at the vw show tatton and when we had some welding work done the guy fitted it for no extra charge! We were going to move the 2 belts along and squeeze in a third but only having a 3/4 width bed this was extremely tight, so we have left it as it is.
