GRRRRRR!!! HELP! Solenoid

Post by VEEDUB »

Just had a great weekend at Peppercorn, but my starting problem continues  Once home it would not start again I took a look at the solenoid and found a weak connection so i striped back two wires that were in one sleeve and crimped a new connector on it, as I was tightening the connection I went a bit to hard and cracked open the solenoid :( so the plastic part where the terminals are has broken.
So now need a new Solinoid ... but cannot see how it comes off the starter motor :?: it's on a air cooled 2.0

Van is parked in the street and I can't move it . Any help will be great .

Not sure if you can seperate the solenoid from the motor so you might be looking at a complete exchange unit.

They can be replaced.
Look for your local Bosch repair agent. (they could overhaul it at the same time.)

The solenoid is held on by three torx screws the opposite end to the connections, or if you have a bay window starter two slotted screws.

Whilst the starter motor is off replace the oilight support bush mounted in the gearbox, these go 'oval' leading to slow and irratic starting. The bush is dirt cheap (about £3.50) and is definately worth changing as part of the fault elliminating process.
