16" High Top syncro - In For Sale forum - NOW SOLD !!

Post by dave4 »

Hi all,

I have a 16" high top syncro sitting here in Andalucia, Spain gathering dust, it needs work doing to it to make it roadworthy and I cant afford this so its got to go . . . . . . . :(
It hasn't been used for the past 16 months as the exhaust has broken and the CV boots are split. It would need these fixing before it was driven anywhere.

I'm not sure what its worth, so I thought I would post here and see if anyone had any ideas or was interested -

The good bits

1991 16" High Top syncro panel van 2.1 petrol 112bhp on UK plates (SORN)
Two working difflocks
Erberspacher rear heater
Heated drivers seat
T3 big mirrors
Lined interior
Tow bar
New rocker cover
197,351 Km
Spare oil and fuel filters

The bad bits

One Rear shock "clunks" on big potholes
Three CV joint boots split
Gearstick snapped (this has been repaired and I have a replacement)
Sliding door sticks
"Rattles" sometimes when changing gear at low revs - propshaft bush?
One tyre has slow puncture
Exhaust cracked before engine on one cylinder temporary repaired (fire cement!)
For this I have some parts - "exhaust pipe cylinders 2+4" - VW p/n 025251172P
and "exhaust manifold" p/n 025251217

I have some pictures somewhere - will have a look and post them later.

cheers

Was this the van that was recently on ebay? The one that the owner forgot to put it was a syncro?

Me and a mate were talking about getting it for a while if it is

I would be prepared to go and collect it with 3 CV boots and a splined tool in me hand luggage. You pay the fees that you would have to have paid anyway (flights/fuel/ferry) and lob me a modest bung on top and its sorted!
Have found myself with lots of spare time on my hands of late...............

Just remember you will be done if you try drive it back through customs if it isnt taxed or MOT'd. Even if they dont stop you big brother will register your
number plate on entry into UK. Need to trailer it.
Photos will help a lot on giving a very rough value.

Cant tax without an MOT. Can legally drive if going to MOT station for test or repairs within reasonable distance. Ferry lands in Plymouth and it will pre-booked into an MOT testing station in/near Plymouth. Will even have an appointment card and will be in their diary.I live 40 miles from Plymouth. simples.

Cheers for the replies, it needs the exhaust sorting before its driven a long way - it could be "bodged" to get you to the nearest garage (30kms or so) but it wouldn't last much longer. You would need a garage to weld it, or fit the new parts . . . . . .

You can get away with it! a friend of mine drove back a UK plated car that had no MOT and was "Sorned" in the UK, he contacted the DVLA, they said book it in for an MOT for the day you arrive away and tax it straight after that. He drives this car back and forth to the UK regularly now with no bother . . . . . . . . .

Will have a look for the photos . . .

:rollin think it would be cheaper to scrap it!
