Carb advice please! Which ones will fit?

Hi guys, I broke down earlier in the van earlier (about 5 times)!
I have had problems with the Solex Pict 34-4 carb which is fitted to my 1600CT engine. It has been tuned by the Vw specialist and ran ok for a bit, but then wouldnt idle.

Now, when I drive the van, it goes for a few miles, splutters and stalls. Recovery mechanic came out to me today and happened to be a Vw air cooled enthusiast! He had the carb apart and tried all the usual things but drew a blank.

I was wondering of there are any good replacements for this carb about? Will any of the other carbs fit that are available on the other petrol t25's?
