Hi folks,
just a quick question.....can we use industrial rubber hoses to replace the solid ones? Was a suggestion from a mechanic after seeing the rusted ends of the ones in place on daughters van....thought I'd ask on here....seems ok to me...we have rubber elsewhere...is there a reason why?

Re: Front to back pipes
Hi, I used industrial hose on a diesel t25 years ago and had no problems at all, eventually the van was scrapped due to rust but the hoses were fine after 8 years use. Do make sure that the hose is suitable for use with vw's recommended anti freeze and the hose is secured to prevent chaffing and it will be ok

Re: Front to back pipes
Thank you - that is joyful news indeed!
Thought there was gonna be a problem....as folk are replacing with stainless for the top of the range fix (no pennies for that before you ask) but if we can get 5 years out of them....
you say about the anitfreeze...will the pipe specialist know what this is?
thanks for coming back.

Re: Front to back pipes
if you are dealing with the supplier of the pipe it is best to confirm with them the type of anti freeze used, I can't remember the formulation for vw G12 but i'm sure someone will be along in a minute who will tell you, I'm at the office at the moment so cannot go and read the bottle. My pipes cost about £80 but that was ten years ago, still better than the price of proper pipes and easier to fit.
PS google may have answer to G12 formula if you don't want to wait for a reply on here
Good luck

Re: Front to back pipes
When I came to change my pipes recently for stainless steel items, I found that the originals had been shortened and rubber pipe had been used for some of its length.
The thicker rubber pipe would not go through the holes in the engine bay firewall properly and some gash bending and undoing of the securing bolts was the result. All fixed when the proper job was done.
Just be aware that thicker pipes will require bigger holes and you might find tight places where the new pipe may not fit through. And make sure the pipes are supported properly as I also found that they we not with mine.
Cheers
