on a seriouse note , see how its stripping, within 2-3 seconds its up and falling off,
the rest will come off with the grinder, no point wasting goo on filler ,takes too long

I fthey had have taken some more of the dints out they wouldnot have needed so much of it, with regard to the area behind the mirror fixing ,I will do this with lead as I dont want the same to happen again,
It looks like I will have to strip most of the paint off this van as its so badly adhered, its funny paint, and I reckon it will pickle when its in the oven,
I am happyish about the arch I think I can pull it out some more and after grit blasting and such I would like to consider letting in some new metal and then leading it up. reason being that the arch is fairly good the metal is far better than a repro, I would like to retain as much as possible of the original as I think letting in arches the correct way are something to do in years to come , we shall see.

luckily looks like less of a major rust cover up you have more of a quick tidy up!

well no major horrors found thank goodness, mainly variouse repaints and such, dont think there has been any malice in the work.
this shows the area behind where one of the side skirt brackets was

was the fact that the last respray was done with most items still attatched, just a blow over, what this shows is the paint edge with the stripper lifting it, if you do paint round stuff then in time weather etc will do the same as its an open edge waiting for it.
this is the slider, as said its rot free but just a touch of filler in, should be able to lift most of these dints out,

the ammount of filler for the state of the body is odd but on closer examination it would seem that they have filled and item and not rubbed it down correctly and so applied more filler to try and get it smoth and even, eventually covering half the panal.
re-styling the 'atlantic' logo, looks sort of swept and ther gull is rising from the ocean !! these are the small bungs Im on about chris,

this is the fridge panal to B post join, there was filler in the bottom of the seam then painted then silicone on top of that then painted again,

Its been a shame to have to strip the lot but this last waft over was so bad and the paint ????? it was just too unstable a base, plus would need to use filler to smooth out the contours trying to feather it back.
osf door on the other hand got one very heavy coat of stripper and after 2-3 minutes this started

now I was on the otherside and heard it crackling and bits rolling up and dropping off.

bare metal in one hit, mint door,
so will just need a wash with some stripper and then rub the last bits of paint of and the sides will be nice, leaving the upper parts till later as the westy windows will not be happy if coated...

Well I played stripper again today heres some of the lovely finnish and the expensive decals are in here too

the os arch and dummy filler area are good with a touch of rust on the seam, most of it appears to be the result of a past owner taking a grinder to it then only priming so the surface either side of the seam shows rust aswell now.

N/side now, this is the B post area,they filled the seam and then cut a line in it, seam sealered then painted then siliconed it and repainted

Door bottom is sound with no rot, just dints well there a bit bigger so 'dents' there is filler like this in a good few places and all done arounnd the same time, wonder why they didnt try to remove some dents first, that said at least they havent stretched it so I have a chance of getting rid of a lot of it.

Now this is really happy, look at the sill on the fridge side

I will be taking the DA to it shortly then hitting the seams with the grit blaster, .

Well been away for a bit but....have started to strip out the rear as there is a need to inspect the inner panals and also the osr wing bottom needs a little welding, have checked the inner sill / jp area and its as good as it gets,

a little rust on the seam but should be able to get some of it off/out and aand maybe open up the seam a little from the inside coupled with the same externally and the external grit blasting is about all that can be done.

I think that the factory dg windows have helped in sofar as virtually no water run off was present.what I am suprised at is the complete lack over any cavity spray/waxoyl etc.
Would this be insulation or sound deadening or a combination of both

Not just any old material of a roll but with a specific part number

I think sound deadening/insulation for air intake fitted to velles and kombis, production fitment only not available for sale, leaves a hairy mess when you try and remove it, bitumen and horsehair sort of thing
no rear inertia reel seatbelts fitted

Very bliddy observant of you Aiden , it has lap belts only and by the look of the threads on the upper rear mounts then it has never had a belt fitted there as they're clean paint.
Well if your right then I will find it ont t'other side, would you care to speculate as to the part no of it

I suppose as the wardrobe is this side the snorkle/induction noise will not be presesnt, though maybe this is only on the conversions, theres folk out there with the knowledge, its achademic in this case but would be interested to know.

Im glad I took a load of this paint of as there is no reason for the majority of the panal to be covered in filler,its indicative of the number of vans have have had bodgy repairs done in the past, and it shows how good the factory bare metal coating is as this is carefully left to do its job as in http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e308/ ... the da will take the residue off and leave the surface ready for paint.

Just wondering which stripper do you use? Something like nitromors or something more specialised.
