Tyre question

..and a probably over-done and irritating one, so sorry!


I am running a set of "15 Merc rims (whole different topic so lets not go there), code 203 that currently have a set of Macho Greenway MT 205/75/R15s on. They are not only "pooh", but are also knackered and unsuitable for any use let alone road use. I obviously hanker after some BFG/ATs but can't find them in that size, which I assume is because they don't come in that size. Does anyone know of a stockist of that size (online, with mail order) or know if I can put some of the 215/75/R15s on? I tried the WIKI of course, but no matter how basic I can not get my head around numbers without a physical demonstration of the whys and hows .http://www.blackcircles.com has them for £122.44 per tyre fitted at a location of my choice.

215 /75 /15. basic advice

215 = width of tyre

75 = 75% of the width (215 x 75% = 161.25) height of sidewall.

15 = wheel size.

i`m sure a lot of the guys run the 215/75/15 size.

215/75/15 are best suited on a 6" rim. Maxxis do a few 205/70/15 tyres and by all accounts they are a good enough tyre

I've been running BFG M/T's 215/75 15's on Merc 203 (think they are 6 inch rims) with no clearance issues. A/T's should be much the same. £120 per tyre sounds about right.

If you want a MT try Kumho KL71's - generally much cheaper.

If you're after an AT then the Kumho KL78's a good choice, i paid £50 each for mine fitted (2009 prices)

So to clarify, I can replace my 205/75/r15 tyres with 215/75/r15s on the same rims?

Tom, the 215/75/15`s will be fine on your rims as a few of us are running them.

On a different note I have some 215/70/16 BFG AT which have a similar rolling diameter. PM us if your interested in some cheaper tyres.

Amazing tyres. The difference is profound both in road noise reduction and with fuel consumption. Well worth the money!
