I havent checked all the small print but they say if the worst happens they will repatreate the van seems to be a really good deal.

:ok

Get the insurance schedule and READ the small print, a 'Well she told me ..... ' doesn't work well from the side of a French motorway. Verbal agreements aren't worth the paper they're written on etc etc. I'm not trying to scare you ... remember I'VE BEEN THERE. Flux Rescue brought us home.

I also have a guaranteed value of £7700 so i assume that they have to use this rather than the glasses guide ?
when i get the policy terms this week sometime i will check it over

Nope.

They don't HAVE to do anything. In the wiki https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Breakdown_ADAC you can read the correspondence I had with our then breakdown insurer ADAC (German AA) their value is calculated on market value in Germany on that day of a broken down T25 panel van. That is the sole reply they would give. Our's was fresh from the bodyshop and they still declined to acknowledge it was a 'cherished vintage vehicle' based on the photos I sent them.

Ask your self this ... How much would YOU pay for a 20-odd year old van with a broken engine ? That's the way they look at it, and most if not all of these breakdown companies have The Clause in the small print. I have Flux Rescue for 2 reasons ... 1) I have an agreed value (£7,000) insurance policy WITH FLUX and they may struggle to then say it's only worth £500 if I need to be recovered and 2) I KNOW their cover works because we have been repatriated by them a few years ago.

I know this one's gone dead now but I read it with interest as I'm about to go to Europe and was a bit shocked about the RAC, current UK breakdown recovery provider, quoting me £169 for a mere three weeks cover in France - the repatriation clause is the bad one others have referred to. After some rooting around I came across Green Breakdown Cover and from what the policy do says they may be okay. Does anyone who's looked closely at this fancy taking a look and offering a view? The policy doc is here http://www.greeninsurancecompany.co.uk/ ... online.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - section 13 on p14.

Thoughts welcome!

In the exclusions (i.e. they WILL NOT) ...
repatriation if your vehicle can be repaired but you do not have adequate funds for the repair.

So ... Imagine your engine blows and you get recovered to a French garage and they want €3,000 to swap the engine ... :?

A keen eye sir, thanks. There always seems to be something in that darn small print!

This breakdown cover search is giving me a headache. Might just get the best balance (coverage vs price) and source a haulage company separately just in case repatriation is needed. More time on the bloody computer lies ahead!

From experience i would say a definate no to the RAC cover .I blew a turbo in the south of france which they insisted i had fixed at a garage they use regulary to the some of £1000 ,Then told they had fitted the turbo but the engine was also knackered ,After many rows with RAC in lyon they decided they wouldn't re-pat even though i had value agreed at £8500 .Finally after 2 weeks still stuck in France in some motel they decided to re-pat :D the van took 2 weeks to arrive by ON-TIME recovery  with damage to the underside where it had been loaded and items missing from inside. Also my £1000 mountain bikes were missing  .Finally the bikes turned up 3 weeks after covered in oil and scratched to f@@@k .Believe me RAC you must be joking.Unfortunately it has put me off Europe,Herman is for UK journeys only :(

Having just (1st July) renewed with Adrian Flux the small print on Flux Rescue is that it entitles you to £3,000 of roadside assistance and recovery. So seeing as I have AA cover anyway for driving the car that's £3,000 to get us to the nearest ferry port. 8)
