no prob , with standard box and wheels the poor old girl is doing 4500 rpm ant 74 mph tho

but the 1.7 is a much stronger engine or at least seems to be capable of a lot more miles than the 1.6 from the ones i have seen

although vw say the max spped 4/5 speed is 115 kmh which is 71.46 mph so your doing well!

Keep the 1.7 KY engine as the upgrade to a 1.91Y isn't worth it and you will loose out on mpg. (ive done it and thats how i felt).

My advice on all diesel engine changes is don't swap your engine until your current engine goes pop. There is a little bit of torque increase but its just not worth the hassle / money.
However, if its your hobby and you like doing that stuff - then go and enjoy yourself.

I'd be happy with that! My final drive gives me 4200rpm at 60mph, at 50mph it's still up at 3500rpm
The AAZ loves that

which box do you have?

acording to the usual lists even the 1.6 aircoold box is better than yours!

AVU final drive is 6.17 . 16" diesel syncro doesn't like motorways, but eats up 50 odd% gradients :D
