Hi guys, just had my bus in for a bit of work, including new carbs.
The mechanic who did the work suggested that the only proper way to get the carbs set up spot on was on a rolling road.
Theres one not far from me who specialise in tuning (old race cars etc) and was suggested by locals.
The question is, is there any downside to this ? anything I need to be aware of ?
I'm very wary of non - dub mechanics for good reason.
The bus is running OK, maybe just needs an adjustment mid-range.

nothing to bad, and will improve mpg and response from the engine! If they deal in old race cars and alike should be sound!

Cheers guys, its not so much the waste of money that bothers me, more the fact that part of me thinks while shes running ok leave well alone, however she could run better, I just hope that they know what they are doing, I'm pretty cynical about some of these non vw garages due to some poor experiences in the past !

I would think VW tuned the carb to give you the middle ground here.
trading off a bit of power for better fuel economy... and vise versa
Personally I would not think there's much to be gained by changing mains jets.
The engines ability to breath is one very important limiting factor where power is concerned, breathing in and out.
Fitting a larger carburettor with more intake will give more power indeed, in fact folks here (including myself) are dabbling with just such a thing.
Delorto DRLA 38's are the carbs in the frame.... and boy do they deliver
but like everything power related.. you have to pay at the pump.
Dells will be economical, but then the temptation is there to slay corsas, clios and transits
trading off a bit of power for better fuel economy... and vise versa

but its easy to slay them plus a lot more motors!
(well it is if you get a decent engine !)
A rolling road set up will get the carb running sweet and will save ya fuel, its the only 100% way to set um up!

I had a rolling road setion once i got my scooby lump fitted, made a massive difference even on a properly ecu'd engine, ok i had a re map of it but got more mpg and even more bhp out of the engine (145bhp out od a stock ish 130ish engine!)

a session on a rolling road is the way to go. they also use emmisions as well as the rolling rd plus you cant beat an old boy ears if you know what i mean.
