DG Early & late thermostat?

Post by troublemike »

Hi,

I'm pretty new to all this watercooled flat 4 stuff...

I have just bought an early 1.9 DG to replace my late DG (head has gone amongst other things).

The thermostat and housing is missing off the 'new ' motor! Will the later style one be OK to use on the earlier motor?
I have searched about this but cannot find any info!

Thanks

Mike

The short motor i.e. minus exhaust and cooling system is the same. :ok

I always though the early dg is just the same as the late dg and you just plumb your coolant system back in the same as before

It appears after reading the baffling haynes and looking at photos of DG motors on here the coolant hose set up varies from early to late..
So I am going to change over all the cooling system off the late and put it onto the early, only prob I have is the metal coolant pipe has a dodgy repair made of a cooper pipe and solder! Just about to put in a big order to JK so will ad this on

Thanks for the replies :ok

Fit the BEST late cooling system parts you can get your paws on, cooling is not the part to scrimp on.

Pointless flashing tat and plastic-chrome decoration spring immediately to mind. (we already have faux-Ocelot furry dice anyway  )

I ordered the parts from Brickwerks, some worked out cheaper than JK too

Thanks :ok
