Leaky sliding window

Post by Sir Brixalot »

Hi

I did pop post up asking if it's still possible to buy the brush seals for the sliding window because its been runnin in for years and left a hole i the window sill. No joy so I reckon they aren't available any more. Has anyone found something that prevents the water gettin in and running along the inside window grrove

Hi

Had exactly same issue, spent hour tonight scraping out the rotten remains of old brush seals, on my window there are two holes each end on the bottom of the frame on the outside which go through both sliding grooves, I guess these are supposed to let any water that gets in to drain out, got dark just as I finished so I'll let you know if the water now drains out as the holes were blocked with gunk from the old brush seals. I don't know if these holes are standard? because the windows lie at an angle water is always going to go in, thats how it appears anyway. Let me know if you here anything on this one, many thanks.
They all said sell her, get rid, but we won't give up on her that easily!

Hi
I replaced the seals on mine (original sliders in standard van) a couple of years ago using FWR148 seal from Seals Direct, its a flocked rubber http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/shop ... entId=4#30 If you give them a ring they'll post you a sample so you can check if this will fit yours. I had to take the windows out to fit it.

Thanks, funnily enough I had tracked this down can't remember why now but didn't fit. Ordered some more (narrow width) from Vintage Supplies ltd which fitted widthways but where the frame bends the flock rucked up and the sliding window couldn't close properly. Two large rust holes under the window where water drips from sliding window and it dawned on me that the large hole (now welded) in the floor would have been caused by this. Really don't want this to continue. Incidentally the frame on my slider looks like aluminium and is 106cm by 41cm to the edges of the metal frame. Does anyone know if this is standard?

I gave up trying to get the water to stop at the rubbers - mine had been leaking for years and had caused plenty of rust issues under the window and on the floor. Having had all that fixed I cleared out the bottom of the runner, I then drilled a hole through the bottom right corner of the window frame, now the water travels down the runner and dribbles out on the outside of the van, I think that's sorted the problem - haven't had damp internal carpet under the window since. :D

Great idea. I'll do the same.

I had actually given up with the brush seals and used windscreen sealant to seal around the whole sliding part of the window. Next time it rained the channel still filled up. I just cant work out where the water's coming from because apart from the channel every thing feels dry. Out of interest on my sliding window the vacant outer channel has a 1 inch long piece of plastic butted up to the fixed part of the window. This looked watertight but just noticed that on pushing water is squeezed out. Should this plastic part be longer?

You're lucky. I don't even have that much plastic strip!. I need the felt seals too but in the meantime, I took a lenth of 2 core cable, took out the 2 inner cables leaving the outer sleeve. I poked the outer sleeve into the outside channel(the gap you have behind the plastic bit in your pic.
Ok I can't use the sliding window without removing that bit first but it sure keeps the rain out 'til I get it fixed.

Is this where you put the cable, the reason I ask is that putting it here wouldn't stop my sliding window from opening?
