You will be fine mate, its not all about how much you do its how you do it that counts. Its about practicing and learning the basics, SP is a perfect venue to polish your skills as a beginner. I will throw in my highway code book for the hardcore :rofl

Nicely put Jed! I spent a year being a passenger and driving other syncros before I bought my own :D The tuition I got from experienced syncro drivers was excellent and increased my confidence but sadly reduced my bank balance   :D
SP is definately the one :ok

Got my booking in and paid for, but .... still plagued by leccy issues since Eire. Symptoms are no wipers or wash, no blower, no main beam and no permanent high beam, plus upgraded headlamp warning buzzer relay buzzes at different frequences when wipers enabled at different speeds. I've removed, cleaned and refitted both earth crowns, plus all their spades. Removed, cleaned and refitted a live feed to another bit of electrickery mounted above the crowns. All of the above were a bit manky. Also checked there are no wires rubbing in the steering column. Grr! Any ideas what else I should be checking?

Possibly it's the load reduction relay - all the bits you are on about are I think supplied by the X circuit rather than pin 15 ignition live
the relay is in socket 8, second from left on bottom row of relays, if the earths were manky then there's probably some water ingress from corners of windscreen and relay contacts can become corroded to in evaporation/condensation cycle of dampness, try removing it and plugging it back in a few times to clean the contacts - could be relay has failed, I have a spare used one somewhere, just have to look up see which number relay it is

Thanks Aidan. I've just reseated all relays several times with no improvement. 2nd from left on bottom row is relay 18 and the contacts look good. Not sure if thats the one you mean, as I removed it and still had the gremlins.

I'll send you an 18 but I'm with Russel on the earths really, probably one of the connectors that has two wires going into it has a dry joint so the only conduction is wire to wire not to the spade connector and thus not to the crown - did you use contact cleaner on the spades ? That's what worked for me when I had a earth fault like this and why I always carry it in the van.
I had to do my fuel sender contacts this evening, took a lot of plusgas and patience to even remove the plug without breaking the connector and then 2 goes with the contact cleaner in the plug and socket but now I have 1/3 tank to show for the £30 worth I put in and haven't used

Thanks Aidan and Russel for advice and parts. Its still not working :(

Both hedgehogs removed again and cleaned back to shiny metal with dremel polisher on both spades and nubbins on back to bodywork. Bodywork under hedgehog cleaned back to shiny metal. All connectors pushed on/off several times with switch cleaner used, then waggled while live to see if any dry joints were evident, especially the twinned. No joy.

Relay 18 swapped for spare from Aidan. No joy.

Got desperate so swapped 99 relay back to my 19. No joy.

Removed and reseated all bar the ignition block on the steering column. Connections look good. No joy.

Removed and reseated all blocks to back of fusebox plus the various connectors behind it. No joy.

Now discovered that if I enable full beam using indicator stalk pullback the blower and wipers start working. Full beam is still not toggling as it should.

What next pretty please - start resoldering all earth spade connections especially twined, suspect indicator/fullbeam stalk faulty, or something else?

well I guess try the contact cleaner on the indicator light switch contacts - these have little carbon brushes on the contact plates so maybe one has become dislodged and is shorting something in the switch - I'll check if I have a spare one and if I have I'll post it out and I guess check the multiplug to the dash hasn't slipped - there should be a shroud around the plug that ensures it is lined up and provides a positive latch but often they are missing so multiplug is just holding on by the pressure of the contacts on the ribbon connector edge and circuit board can be distorted by this

 bliming 'lectrics! Spent 6 hours on this so far and still no joy and now run out of time. Thanks for the advice from peeps who've chipped in. I'm coming to SP if its dry and daylight driving. If its raining or dark I'm staying in and cussing, so please no rain dances as I've got a new camping chair I want to try out.
