I have just had to sort out a burnt wiper motor and seized spindles on my syncro. The spindles over time corrode and gum up the wiper slow and eventually seize. You can rebuild the spindles and make them like new again. The hard part of this job is getting the wiper mechanism out. It is a bugger of a job which involves removing the dash. Removing the dash is covered elsewhere so I won't go into that. To remove the mechanism however you have to remove the 4 large screws from under the windscreen, the wiper arms, plastic caps and the big nuts. Back inside the van you need to undo the big screw under the wiper motor on the wiper mechanism. Once these are all removed you can man handle the wiper mechanism out of the van from the side.
Now the mechanism is out of the van inspect the end of one of the spindles and you will see a Jesus clip (aka known as a circlip). Carefully remove the circlip so it doesn't fly across the room, otherwise you will use the lords name in vain (now you know why it is called a Jesus clip) and it will be lost forever. Once the circlip is removed you should be able to remove 2 washers and a o ring seal. The inner part of the spindle should now move in and out of the outer casing. If not and it is really seized tight use some WD or other lubricating spray and see if you can shift it. Try a vice and hammer to tap it down a bit. I was unable to remove the spindle completely but it moved enough for me to clean it out and repack the spindle with fresh grease. Once you are happy with the movement put it all back together and have a crack at the 2nd one.
When you put it back in the van should be like new.
