Wipers are fantastic but lights playing up.

Post by slobbo »

Well after picking up a good 2nd hand wiper mechanism from Ian at Syncronutz I took it home, stripped and repacked the spindles with new grease and put everything back together. Wipers are amazing. They fly at full speed. The lights however are another matter. When I put the head lights on the dash lights go out and the rpm gauge drops to 0. Head lights don't go on until you hit the hi beam button then they all come on. Hit the dip again and they all stay on. When I kill the engine I can here a hi pitched squeal. It eventually goes out. Can't quite tell where it is coming from. Where oh where do I look first?

I have to say the quality of the dash pod is diabolical. Who in world would choose to use a plastic ribbon cable in a vehicle. Complete and utter crap. The one in mine has 2 repairs on it. Could it be in the dash pod?
Cheers
Rob.

Just tried the lights without the dash connected and they worked fine so I am guessing the dash pod is the problem. How do I fix that. Ahhhhhhh

Found it. The white plastic connector had popped open and dislodged one of the terminals so it wasn't making connection properly.
