Rear Seatbelts - A thousand apologies

Post by AdsDoka »

Hi

I have an '86 Doka - not a Syncro but there seems to be more Syncro Doka's than not.

I need to fit 3-point Seatbelts in the back of mine and all the posts on C80-90 are panel vans and campers. So;
1. Has anybody fitted rear Seatbelts to their Doka?
2. Any tips/ advice?

I know I can get a seatbelt kit from JK, but obviously there's no top mount. Do I need to fabricate one? Can I drill and bolt through the existing cab? It seems to me looking at the way the front seat belt is attached at the top, the rear of the cab is similar.

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers Neil.

Yeah unfortunately I have lapbelts across the three rear seats. My other option is to find some seats with the belts built in - out of a Renault Scenic or similar - and swap the whole seats. The existing brown vinyl doesn't hold that much appeal... ;)

Why don't you weld in some upper mounts? Any decent blacksmith could weld you up a couple of custom backets.

Ok. I'll get my Dad to fabricate the necessary bracketry and a mate to weld it in.

Anybody do the honours of photographing a factory mount so I can see what one looks like please?

if the van has lap belts then it probably has the upper and lower mounts for the inertia reel belts as fitted to the Tristars, still available new from VW and you can use the existing latch half of the existing belts

Axeman, thanks. It won't open on my iPhone so I'll try on my PC when I get home.

Aidan, there's nothing in the back. I have 3-p's in the front driver and pass and a centre lap belt. Then three laps across the back. My Doka is ex-German military so maybe it's a military spec thing? I'm not sure. Fabrication will be required methinks. I guess I can use the existing floor mount for the 3-p as well.

Ok, the lapbelt in t'middle isn't an issue. I need the 3-p's for my two kid's child seats.

I think brickwerks sell seat belt mounts for the front, surely they could be adapted to go on the pillar instead of the front arches?

you may find that there is a dimple in the metal where the mounts are, if you drill though you may find the captives are already there - they were in the dodoka that had rear lapbelts

i added some 3-point belts from jk in my doka, it had all the holes and nuts alredy there and the belts just bolted in with the provided bolts. The belts were pretty short and the reels were too big for the lower mounts so i used the upper ones, after ajusting everything they worked perfectly. Couldn't find a good pic but you van see them in this one:
