Westy Electrically Operated Mirror

Post by Taw Cottage »

Need to remove electrically operated mirror from my Westy but am having difficulty in doing so.

Have unscrewed the 2 screws that you can see in the picture but it seems to be attached at the bottom by a bolt or screw from inside the door. I have removed door card but can only see the end of a bolt with no nut to unscrew. :?

Any ideas ?????????????

there's no nut there's a rivnut which should be captive in the door skin, if it's spinning then you'll need to get hold of it from inside somehow, not easy as there's little clearance as you've seen
be worth fitting a new rivnut probably and for security slip a nylock on the inside so it can't be undone from outside without accessing the inside too

The third bolt is not inside the door.
You get access to it by removing the small cover that is directly under the pivot point.
You release the cover by pushing a small pin into the hole that you can see in your photo.

Many thanks Guys, once I'd teased the spade connectors out of the plastic blocks, was able to remove the whole mirror from the door :D

Incidently, the reason for removal was that the mirror had gone all floppy, the nut had unscrewed itself off the bottom

Sorry to be a pain, but can you tell me how to remove the mirror glass from the mirror body

To remove the glass.
Between the edge of the mirror and the mirror body/housing you should see two tabs, one on each side.
If the tab is down slide it up, the tabs are connected so the other side should come down.
Then get your fingers behind the edge of the mirror and give it a tug out.
It should come out fairly easily although some have an adhesive pad that puts up a bit of resistance.
