hi.on the 22nd august i plan on going to scotland staying first in john o groats then to loch lomond, edinburgh then down to lake district.anyone suggest sites to stay at please? ta

Luss at Loch Lomond or Ardgarton near Arrochar
Park Cliff just south of Windermere or Slavely between Kendal and Windermere

All are good but personally I prefer Luss and Park Cliff

the site at JOG is basic but has great views to Orkney. the local hotel did some really good food too.

As already stated Luss on Loch Lomand a fantastic site.Morton Hall at Edinburgh is a good site with a regular bus service into the city centre

I take it you are comming down the west coast if Loch Lomond is where you plan to go.

Aviemore, Glen Coe the Loch Lomond.
There are some nice spots if you come down the east coast also, Inverbervie and fife costal area is lovely.

Any specific location in the Lakes?

Borrowdale (near Keswick), Side Farm at Patterdale on Ulswater, Baysbrown in Langdale all spring to mind

Hi,

If you're stopping off at Glen Coe I'd recommend Invercoe campsite (http://www.invercoe.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) - great wee site, right on the water and excellent facilities. Only a 15 min walk to the Isles of Glencoe Hotel too if you fancy eating out.

Beecraigs (http://www.beecraigs.com/campsite/campsite.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) at Linlithgow is also pretty good - 20 mins west of Edinburgh - it's a Council run site but is part of Beecraigs Country Park, which has some great walks, a deer farm, a decent restaurant, and a great playpark (if you're travelling with kids). It's also within striking distance of the Falkirk Wheel and Callendar House - being a Falkirk lad I feel duty bound to recommend a visit to both!!

Wherever you end up, have a great trip!

The other option is the Red Squirrel Camp site at Clen Coe not so fancy as invercoe no hookup but for 5 pound not bad, plus pup next door with great food and a sing song!
Beecraigs is a good idea I didn't think of that and I live in Bathgate on my door step!! You could use the train in and out of Edinburgh easy.

Unfortunately beecraigs has been hit by recent car thefts and general damaging of vehicles (within the car park area) however i have not heard of much happening in the park

just a wee bit friendly local knowledge if your thinking of leaving the van and getting the bus anywhere.

i would certainly agree with most of the comments here about the west coast, however there are just too many beautiful spots to stop at it would take four weeks for the journey
