Reupholstering pop top roof - advice please

Post by alkers »

Hi, I have completed re-carpeting the lower cabin walls & ceilings, and am now contemplating the pop top.

I have a Devon side lifting, full length tardis of a poptop, with a little sky light that opens. I am a bit nervous as the carpet appears to be glued staight onto the fibreglass.

Has anyone got advice on doing this?
Should we take the old carpet off?
Should we insulate under the new carpet?
How should we attach the new carpet -simply with glue? I guess screws and potrivets are a no go.

Thanks :ok

i just pulled mine off and got a heavy duty glue to re apply the new carpet and used plent of it. it came off really easily and any that didnt, did with a scraper.

no insulation / underlay?

Was just admiring your post! You've done an amazing job. Love the new folding roof - where did you get the canvas?

i just stuck it straight on. the carpet i used was thicker than the original. i got it from proud to pop. they do loads of designs. quite expensive and when you get it you wonder why it was that much money but i have got over that now :D. takes 2 to 3 weeks from when you order and it did fit well. quite a lot of work to fit it. i took it off as it was being painted so was loads easier. would imagine it is hard with it on as all the self tappers in the top were rusty and just rounded off.
