Hi.
Another fridge question...
I just acquired a 1985 autosleeper and I can't seem to figure out the 2 way fridge.
The fridge hasn't been used for 4 years and I don't know if it works on 12v as I haven't driven the van for long enough to check it out yet (only got the van last week)
When the gas bottle is connected it won't light although the stove does. I can't hear gas either.
I have had a good look around to see if there is a switch to turn the fridge gas on but I can't find one so I am assuming when the gas is on it feeds both the stove and the fridge.
Before I take the fridge out is there something obvious I might be missing?
There is a zig CF8 unit in the van but the instructions for that say a fridge shouldn't be connected to it so I haven't turned the fridge switch on to check it as I don't want to drain the main battery (I'm currently charging the leisure battery)
I have read the manual but couldn't find anything of use.
Thank you in advance
Hilary

Re: electrolux 122f fridge in autosleeper
Hi Hilary, welcome to 80-90
Sure it's an Autosleeper? I've not seen one with a CF8 but it might be retro fitted and I think '85 is more the CF6 era.
Anyway, does your fridge have a push button Piezo igniter or a switched electronic one? I think the RM122 has a piezo ignition, but if you do have an electronic ignition the 12v from the Zig is probably only to feed the electronic igniter rather than the actual 12v fridge element – that should be fed via a relay which will only connect the fridge while the engine's running. There may also be a gas valve for the fridge supply hidden away somewhere - need another Autosleeper owner to advise you on that though.......
Any pictures of the interior of your camper so we can confirm it's identity as a bone fide Autosleeper?
While I'm here, a few links for you in case you haven't certain manuals

Re: electrolux 122f fridge in autosleeper
Autosleepers vary a great deal and the equipment fitted depends on what's on the shelf at the time of conversion. My 1985 model is fitted with an RM 212-F fridge, with electronic ignition, and a CF9 Zig unit which has two fuses in it for the fridge, one for the 12v and one for the 230v. There is a row of gas taps in the locker to the right of the fridge, on my van the top one is for the hob/grill, the centre one is for the "Hot Box" heater and the bottom one for the fridge. My Autosleepers hand book states the fuse for the fridge is in the control panel above the sink unit but this is not the case in my van. The relay for my fridge, which is activated by the ignition switch, is behind the control panel above the sink, there is also a switch on this panel for the fridge relay. I have wired a warning light into the 12v feed to the fridge so I know if all the fuses and switches are on. It also tells me if the element is OK as the light dims a litle when the fridge is switched on to 12v. Hope this is of some help.
