Hi,
Have drained and flushed through the coolant on my 1988 DG 1.9 T25 for the first time as per the haynes manual.
all seemed fine as flushed through, however once putting in the new coolant i have only got around 6 litres in and the tank is full to the brim already and doesn't seem to be going down no matter what i do to squeeze the hoses etc to remove air?
Both the radiator bleed screw and thermostat bleed screw are open completely.
is there any trick to do this, or something i've missed?

Was the system totally empty as there should be 16 litres of coolant in the system?
Try using Baxters tried and tested method for bleeding the system.

Baxters tried and tested method lol......This method or similar was used back in the day....nothing to do with Simon although his writeup is useful for those not in the know.
Besides, this problem has nothing to do with bleeding, just that most of the water wasn't drained before refilling....and unfortunately it is easy to fall into this trap. Problem is now the only thing you can do is to drain some of the 30% mix in order to add yet more neat antifreeze to make up the shortfall in strength, basically ditching several litres of weak mix to add neat to get strength 50:50.....you will need to buy several more litres as what you have will not be enough.

6L of neat antifreeze isnt NOT enough (if thats that you put in), IMHO...
Drain some more out... you need a good 8-9L of neat antifreeze in there...
