Can an accelerator push rod really cost £30? It is a pretty simple bit of metal with no obvious cost to produce......maybe it has a platinum core or something?

At this rate I will continue to use the masking tape and string repair that I did at the side of the road.
Does anyone have a more reasonable option they could suggest?
Many thanks in advance!

Ron, go see Roger Ball. He's only down the road from you (Great Clacton) and I'm sure he could fabricate or repair your existing one. His number is in the WIKI under carbs. He makes up all sorts of stuff for custom bikes, mobility scooters etc and he's always pleased to see VW owners. Handy fella to know and you'll be glad you met him. Tell him Ralph sent you!!
He once made me a steering column bearing before it was on VW's parts list. Not much he can't do engineering wise. Works from home.

Thanks Covkid - sounds like a great contact to have!
I am in the process of contacting breakers etc to see what comes up, but to be honest someone with a welder could add a little bit to mine and make it work again i think! the rod is intact, it is just the 'prongs' at the end that meet the linkage that have worn away.
Will await a couple of emails back from people and then contact Roger once these are exhausted.
Thanks again

Have you tried the company that made the van?

Thanks all for the help
Managed to get one from Wagonbuild (http://www.wagonbuild.com/) £8 delivered.
Really like the service from these guys, good for finding bits and bobs at a reasonable price. Packaged up and delivered pretty much next day!
Cheers
