vw pastel white

Post by Big Boris »

hi all,
ive recently sprayed a panel on the van with vw pastel white from halfords ,really happy with the finish but the colour match isnt as good as i hoped ,the van has the original spray job its a 89 california ,does anyone know of a make of paint that is a better match than the halfords one?,i realise its 20 years old but the halfords one seams more creamy white,
any recomendations would be greatly appreciated .
thanks

Theres plenty of folk that mix up paint to match and stick it in rattle cans, get a decent match this way, expect to pay £12-15

yep. try the body shops not all do it but the ones that do will do a match (at least ours do) and tint it to suit, whereas the halfwits of this world only have the factory shade (sort off) on the shelf as is.

if you take the filler flap or the sliding door panel off, you can take that to be matched.

And check that the panel you take to be matched hasn't been refinished and matches everything else on the van. Your supplier should have colour books with the L90d shade in together with any variants, e.g 'yellow shade' etc so as to give you the correct colour.

before you do anything try to use rubbing down compound [not T-Cut] on the panel next to the one you sprayed,,,,it might bring back the original colour that matches the new sprayed panel,,,that will mean you will have to do the whole van :run

Hi I have the same problem. The paint code states L90D which should be pastle white. I got some paint from halfords and it always seemed to be a bit more yellowy. Then I tried the proper VW paint ordered from my local VW van dealer, just put some on this weekend and it just doesn't look a bright as the white thats on the van although it is closer than halfords.I will try cutting the paint in a bit more but I don't hold out much hope. I'm now left with hoping a auto car paint company can mix me up a can matched to the van but i'm not sure how sucessfull this will be ????
