Advice on grinding noise, please

Post by twofakie »

Hi all, my t25 westfalia camper from '79 is making some grinding noise only when i take my foot of the gas in second and third gear (so braking on engine). Gears all still smooth, so i;m hoping its not the gearbox, but something like transaxle (by now you probably found out im a technical novice)..
Im taking the van to the garage but would like to hear from your experience so they wont talk me into something its definately not...
Please let me know what you think...thanks!

Pero (im in amsterdam/Haarlem, the Netherlands, by the way...) any more Dutchies on here?

if it's only noticeable in two of the four gears then it's a gearbox issue, if it's in gear with rotation, ie moving then it's diff or pinion shaft, noise in gears but not with clutch dipped is input shaft side ie clutch/spigot bearing, input and mainshaft, if five speed then probably pinion bearing
