van not starting

Post by golf2tim »

hi, just fitted a refurb 1.6ct engine to my van and i have a problem. When i first started it after fitting it ran and would tick over, i could even go for a run, but now it turns over and won't start. I've got spark from the coil and down the ht leads. Some times it will start but not run for long, i thought it might be a fuel problem but it has fuel coming from the pump and threw the carb. I think it has something to do with the firing order, and yes the leads are on the right way. It has really confused me and soon the BIG hammers will be coming out. Can anyone give us a clue what to do. I will be really grateful for some advice.

right you have checked the fuel alls ok, the leads are on right, and it did run for a while, so I would be looking if you now have a spark, so whip the plugs out and check there clean, allso check you have a spark at each one. Then check the timming hasnt moved !

Hello,

So another CT lover :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

More details please.

Do you have the Hall effect ignition (electronic bits on lhs of engine bay)

Is it all standard, if not details.

Cordialement,

:ok

fuel is ok, and it ran for two weeks now decided to stop!. have a good spark from coil, tested one lead and good spark on cylinder three. i am going to try new leads so need to order a set. i cant see that the timing has moved either but will have another look - really frustrated with it at the moment but thanks for the advice

think a trip to Bristol Volkfest may be in order to get some parts :ok

it is the hall effect ignition - put a new ignition control unit on - started once and now nothing. Otherwise it is a standard engine.

be grateful of any advice, thanks
