Auto Aircooled petrol tank?

Post by crazydiamond »

A friend of mine has a 81 Aircooled auto T25, with a leaky tank. Having replaced my tank previously (82 Aircooled) with a mkI tank ie large filler pipe, the only problems I found were sealing the inlet pipe into the tank cuz of the tight fit between it and the hole in the chassis rail it passes through. My suggestion to him is to fit a mkII (smaller inlet pipe) tank, but is the auto tank any different to a manual tank. Am I suggesting a reasonable tank change? cuz I will probably be doing most of the work and I know what a pain of a job it is to seal etc.
