cv REMOVAL trouble
why can't i get the cv off the driveshaft?...clip removed, its moved nearly flush but not budging any further....even used thammer!!! 

in too deep to quit now....

Need a bigger hammer.
Seriously, it's probably not moved in over 20 years, it's not going to want to come apart easily.
Support the joint across the jaws of a solid vice, with the shaft hanging free below and drive it out with a drift and BFH.
It will move eventually, I promise...

You've only just got it flush? Drive it back the other way and recheck there's nothing in the circlip groove.
Check there's no damage or burring on the outside edge of the groove, if you see what I mean.
Make sure to use a drift. Whatever you do, don't hit the end of the driveshaft directly with a hammer or you'll never get it out (or back on afterwards) as you'll mushroom the end of the driveshaft.
You'll need a drift anyway, as you're going to have to drive it all the way through the joint, it's not going to drop out after having moved the first few millimetres!

For future reference, never hit anything you want to keep directly with a hammer, always have something else in between.
You might be able to get the CV apart without removing the driveshaft (supposed to be possible, but I always take the shaft out), can clean and re-grease, but not replace.

If the CV isn't that bad, I'd just clean it up and re-grease. If you were removing in order to change the rubber boot, start again from the other end (use a drift this time!!!). Remove that joint and boot, then you can slide the other one off.
Don't forget to put the circlip back

syncro mate they are a tighter fit/less weear on splines, use a puller or a press

right..cant get either end to shift past flush!!!...yes i have started to make a mushroom.....is the little bit of spline used for drive i.e does it matter if i file it to bevel the edge. this is so so tight..i have a large cone ended 4"rod that i'm beating into the hole with it in the vice jaws but flush is as good as i can get with a 2lb lump hammer and as big a swing as i dare. bought another pair of second hand shafts and 4 new joints so i could remove and refit and not be rushed by daylight/weather issues....glad i did or i'd be stuffed now but even heat hasn't made a difference, they go back down ok but the feckers will not come off.

I HAVE TO ADMIT DEFEAT!!!!!...............got bigger than a d.i. y . job.....going to have to pay to get it done now, so glad i bought some other shafts to try to refurb or i'd be stuffed now
