Hi,
I'm getting a terrible rotten egg smell in my T3 Atlantic when the van is in motion. It's only noticeable when the windows are open. I don't think it's either of the battery's as there not overheating and the leisure battery is only a couple of months old. It doesn't seem to be coming from the engine compartment either. The clutch is new also. If I park the van up and run the engine I get nothing. It's not coming thru the heater/air ducts either as the smell goes when the windows are closed. Anyone got any ideas because the stench is unbelievable and it's getting too warm to drive around with the windows shut.???

I do believe this symptom can be caused by an excessively rich air/fuel mixture.Or a failing catalytic converter(if you have one)

wts.
cats all smell a little but if its really bad there may well be a running problem. get a bypass pipe instead of the cat and get a gas test after to check things ok.

Re: Rotten Egg smell
I've had this. After blaming the cars in front, cats and high sulpher fuel, realised it was my waste tank!
At the bottom of the black tank near the gas tank valves there is the small drain, mine had partially bunged up so when I thought it had finished draining the tank was still full. Tap the side of the black tank and I bet its full. Undo the big black cleaning cap. I drained it over a street drain grate. Then flush it all clean with a hose pipe. I'm guesing the smell comes from a breather or leaking seal joint at the top of the black tank. Hope this helps, Mal.

I had the same problem. I think it is just residual water that does not completely drain and then the smell comes up through the plug hole in the sink. I usually take the caps off the two outlets in the black tank (grey water) underneath and stick a hose up one and wash through - works for me.

Re: Rotten Egg smell
Thanks for the posts guys but to my shame Mal was spot on. Gave it a clean out last night and everything is back to normal, luckily a day before my mechanic chum was going to come out to check it out and probably rap me round the head with a wrench for wasting his time...
thanks again for the input..
