Petrol diesel conversion

Post by ..lee.. »

Does anyone know if the glow plug warn light wire is in the loom on a 92 petrol van. Engine in and running. Glow plugs working and diesel dash in but no yellow light.

Here's hoping it's in there somewhere.

Cheers lee

Hi Lee,
short answer no
The glowplug wire is non existent on my mate's petrol van, we are putting in an audi 1Z into it, just got to the instrument cluster wire identification stage...
seems the T14 connector block arrangement is different for petrol and diesel models (have '82&'83 diesel diagrams and '85 petrol) i.e. position T14/1 on the diesel is for the dash lights and it's something else on the petrol one & so on.
We are installing a diesel instrument pod over but the wire order on the connector block will need to be changed first. This is easy since the connector block parts at the top if you jimmy a little screwdriver over the prongs holding it together.
I'm off down the yard now for a fiddle, can write it down & put info in a table if you like

one thought, on some models there are 'other' wires that go to the dash on petrols that aren't used on diesels - O2 sensor or summit? since that wire will be redundant, it can likely become your new glowplug LED wire. From the top of my head the glowplug wire is T14/14 so take a look to see if it is there. wiring diagram will reveal all...

Ok thanks. Was afraid so. White/red wire in deisel loom is non existent in my petrol loom. Everything else seems to be working so I'll try and rob a wire from something else. Failing that I've got to run a mini loom up to the dash for the aux' guages anyway so I'll add a wire in there.
Lee.

Most simple is it.????? Lol. Lol.

thats cool, just had a thought for double checking which order the wires to the connector block you need.
Wiring diagram does the trick if you know which vehicle the clock/temp/fuel gauge came out of, or...
if you have a look at where the connector block attaches to the blue ribbon, there is a black plastic surround that the connector block fits into. If you go from the other side and push the tabs out, then you can remove the surround bit and see how the blue ribbon folds over - there are numbers 1-14 for each connection on there plus some letters depicting what each one does (some were in german but easy to work out, can translate some for you if you like) :ok
*note the plastic surround only fits on one way, so the connector block can only go in one way round, stops incorrect connections. germans eh, they think of everything

ok cheers, should be ok from here. messed with dashes before but couldn`t remember if there was a glow plug warn light wire up at the clocks. i thought there was in my mind. was sure that i was missing the white / red wire at the body loom engine end. looks like the dash loom is good to go. engine bay loom good to go so just the body loom to add to. i wont be doing this untill i finish everything else but at least i know now to run an extra wire up the body loom when i run up the wires for the extra guages.
