My 85 1.9dg sometimes slips slightly if I put my foot down especially on hills but other times is fine! 1st & 2nd are fine and goes in gears ok any ideas?
Before I've finished one job I'm planning the next!
Given that it's an '85' it's a safe bet that the clutch release mechanism is hydraulic.
The clutch mechanism has to completely release the bearing so the pressure plate is not under any pressure otherwise the centre plate may not be under enough pressure to clamp it to the flywheel.
It is possible for the clutch master cylinder 'adjusting rod' to be set 'too long' and so not fully release when the pedal is at it's highest point. If this has never been touched then it is unlikely to be the cause but is worth checking.
Bet its time for new clutch though. Mine was like that, getting progressively worse over the months. Despite being over 50 I still couldn't bring myself to put it in a garage and fitted a new one myself. Actually, depending on history of vehicle generally you fit complete kit then just friction plate the next time, then complete kit the next. Always worked for me and been doing it for over 25 years.
