I do appreciate all the advice. It's just that I have a really good 24v inverter / charger left over from a different project (energy project). With the advent of grid tie inverters this particular inverter / charger, which is normally found on boats might as well be put to good use. I also have spare batteries that are just sitting around.
I think I enjoy the tech behind renewable energy and I want to incorporate it into my van.

If you want to run 24v just wire just put a spliter relay in between the batteries so they charge at 12v when on the move and revert to 24v when the engine is not running.

I will be interested to see these 400 - 600w of solar panels mounted and the stability result! I would just be able to fit 400w on my bus which is 21 foot long by 7 foot wide.

i have an image of the likes of 3 8x4 sheets of ply bolted to the roof to try and cramp the solar panels on
