Ok, following on from my thread 'Hi' in general chat

Ive ordered a sump gasket, and have downloaded the manual... very useful. I appreciate the idea of these forums is to avoid having to explain thing twice.. with the use of the wiki etc, but I must be missing something, as I cannot find answers to the following questions. Which Im sure must have been asked before.
All questions are in relation to a 1.6td (converting from its present form, as a golf engine)
1.) I assume there is no need for an 'Intercooler'? there must be a simple pipe? from the turbo to the inlet manifold? Im missing all of this (both the turbo-inlet pipe, and air-box etc... i was hoping this is something I can buy? if so where from?
2.) on the inside of the injector pump (engine block side) i have a stray metal cable inner. (bit like the inside of a pushbike brake cable). that has obviously been butchered on the engines removal from the golf. pulling this cable does something with the injector pump but I dont know what... I think its some kind of cold start? is this used on a t25? please explain. Its certainly not the throttle (i can clearly see where that goes)

Hello,
that cable is likely to be the cold-start injection advance - the diesels had a lever just above the centre console by the steering wheel which you could use to actuate this. You should be able to find it there if it was originally a diesel - any sort of sheathed cable should do as long as it's long enough I reckon.
As far as an intercooler goes - I don't believe a lot of the 1.6td vans have them - you could put an add on the wanted section for the pipe and airbox etc, or possibly just join it all together with silicone and alluminium sections of the right size. Other people will know better about this engine for sure.

intercoolers were NEVER fitted standard to any t25
the cable is probably the cold start cable - not needed ,i never known a van to need one.
if you want to fit after market make sure the cable is of solid bar type construction as per original as it needs to push and pull!
