Sorry if I'm reviving a dead thread - I've just been looking through the VW Classic Parts Center Online Shop (the German version). They are currently selling the last of these off for 250,-€ a piece (former price was 1.125,-€). Of course, they are for LHD (right hand side sliding door), but as there are a lot of those around in GB, I thought I'd let you know: "Automatisches Trittbrett Art.: 251821552"
Cheers, André

only thing i will say is make sure your sliding door is rot free!
the opening/closing bracket screws to the outer skin and if its rotten it will kill your door - some tuff springs need to be moved!
i presume you have the door bracket ect?

So about the same as you can buy a brand spankin' new electric motorhome step for...
(former price was 1.125,-€)
And they didn't sell them at that price? Really? I can't think why not...

cant see from the pic , but it opens towards the back of the van ie as you open the sliding door its pull back and out
you should be able to tell by the bracket that attaches to the door to open it as its handed
holes ARE in the chassis rails both sides, clever VW as are the holes for the factory fit fuel heater ect
