replacing kitchen window seal on westy

Post by janieh »

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has managed to replace the rubber seal around the opening kitchen window in a westy? I bought the seal from Peter Gunzl in Germany and it looks very easy to fit onto the metal in the most part. However, when I unscrewed the brackets that are used to shut the window, the two at the sides were screwed onto a secondary metal bracket which I can't figure out how to get off. It's attached with two metal studs that don't unscrew and aren't hex keys.

I've taken some pics of the part I mean:

If anyone can advise on how to get this metal bit off so I can get the seal on that would be fantastic.
Cheers, J.

I haven't replaced the seal - but they look like pop rivets to me - my method might not be the best, but I use a small drill to drill out the middle then gradually scale up until all the aluminium is gone.

Hope that helps.

You can replace it without drilling the rivets out, we did one a few weeks ago.

Hi Jed,

Do you mean you just left the metal plate were it is and just managed to squeeze the seal past it?

thanks, J

thanks - useful to know that, but it definitey doesn't sound like something I'd do ideally! I guess I'll give it a go without removing the plate.

cheers
