Hi,
I have a 1.6 Diesel (1988). Engine Code CS.
Just wondering if anyone knows what oil I should be filling up with? And where to buy?
The only oil I have seen is in Morrisons (they had one that said it was suitable for small to medium diesels). Didn't want to just get that one, as it might only be for modern diesels? (£10 for 5L!!)
I've never had to buy any before, so am not sure what's decent quality etc. I wouldn't buy bike parts in Morrisons, so I get the feeling I shouldn't be buying engine oil there either!!
Owner's manual had a whole bunch of different recommendations based on temperature etc - that apply too?
Thanks!
Kenny

"most 80/90 members feel that its best to _find_ an oil that is primarily for diesel" - still doesn't tell me what I need to know!
Like I say, I've never bought the stuff. The wiki page recommends away from supermarkets and forecourts - what other kind of places (bar Halfords) retail engine oil? The high street shops with alloys in the windows?
Thanks!
Kenny

You must of missed this bit. All you need to do is go to halfords, look for an oil suitable for diesel engines with a viscosity of 15w40 or 10w40.

Diesels
15w40 or 10w40, and an oil suited for Diesel engines. As noted earlier in this page, many modern oils are suitable for either petrol or diesel (read the label) but most 80/90 members feel that its best to find an oil that is primarily for diesel and preferably for Turbo diesel.
