WBX, a bolt missing ?, crankcase, near dissy vac unit
Hi all
Whilst just doing a routine check over under my engine lid, I noticed what looks like a bolt that may be missing.
No pic at this time but the location is easy to explain.
The hole that looks like it should have summat in it is =
On the top of the crankcase (looking down from above) directly above the right hand side of the water pump.
It is directly underneath the vac advance retard diaphragm. (Which is set so it is at about "10 to" on a clock face looking down at it relevant to the dissy itself).
I can get a pic tonight if necessary, but if anyone could shed any light on this from the above I would be very grateful.
( I looked on VAGCAT but cannot see enough detail)
Regards to all
John

So it's the one directly above the distributor clamp and forwards of the fuel pump studs ?

Ian and all
Here is a pic taken from wiki with the place where this hole is (looks like a 15mm type thread) shown with the blue arrow.
The hole (with threads) goes vertically down into the case under the vac advance retard unit.

Here is a pic from 2 years ago when I had it in bits in the front room

Again, the arrow points to where this threaded hole is =

The only hole that would be there is if the dizzy clamp stud had come undone ?

Ta for the input Ian but it ain't that, this hole is just an inch or so (iirc) further forward of the clamp bolt and is larger.
I wish I had a WBX near me to look at (Jonny & Sarah's, also in Malpas, is a Diesel

Will take a proper pic tonight.
This came about as I had a bit of an oil leak, but I think that was from the breather tower base bolts (4 of) that were not tightened up properly.
I noticed the "hole with no bolt in it" at that time.

John I've got my old (2005) JK catalogue here and theres a photo of the top of a vege recon wbxer and there's a recessed hole in the casting forwards of the waterpump ... can't thing that it's used on either our DJ or the DGs before that .. so to do with air con ? Injection ? p.a.s. ?

Thanks Ian, that sounds plausible, or possibly for an engine hoist ring ? (although I know we drop them rather than lift them

I will have a better look tonight and see if it's a blind hole ( I guess / hope it will be ! )
I was in a hurry to put it back together yesterday ready for daily commute.

it's for the bracketry for second alternator military spec and air con compressor bracket, worry not, M12 I think, Steve has been known to use it to mount vapourisers when he puts them on the block

OK all, I think we have the answer
Plus I checked last night and it is a blind hole with threads right to the top and not holding anything "together"
The only reason I was concerned is I did have oil around that area, but as I said above, it looks like that was coming from the breather tower base studs, not being very tight at all, (probably my fault when I put it together ages ago
