auto box problem advise really needed !!!!

i have a 2.1i wasserboxer auto and i seem have lost all forward drive but i can select reverse and all appears ok just nothing forward ,
i was driving it yesterday and all was good but on starting it tonight ......no go ,i have noticed recently that when i drive off from cold it has been slipping a bit untill it warms up ,weather this has any relation to the problem i don't know,ive never had an auto before so not really familiar with how they perform .
any clues or advise gladly recived ??????

you checked the oil level in the box?

oil level is ok i recently changed the sump gasket the filter and filter gasket i have checked it in neutral as it should be done

Not entirely familiar with the auto's in these as I haven't had to work on mine yet, but based on other auto's I have worked on.....

Did you re-check fluid after a run? If it is like the other auto's I have worked on when you have drained it to change filter etc it will empty some of the torque converter/valve body and this only fully fills after a run. Refering to OP did it move at all after the filter change - if not, start up and move selector back and forth between D and R to push the fuid through the system and then re-check level.

Failing that, sure you didn't get any dirt/rag/cloth contamination in the valve body when you had the sump off? Something blocking a valve in the valve body?

Checked the gear selector linkage to make sure it is moving freely - look under the van while someone else is moving it.

Otherwise I am thinking clutch/brake bands which is an auto specialist job......

Just a stab in the dark - a mate of mine had an Austin 1100 auto years ago and could only get reverse; turned out to be the selector lever cable had gone t!ts up somehow. Here endeth my technical know how :oops:
