Sliding door lock not working with key

Post by proober »

Hello helpful club80-90ers,

The sliding door on my new [old] T25 won't unlock with a key.

Is this common? Can it be repaired?

I know it's not the end of the world to open the passenger door and hook the arm over to unlock from the inside but sometimes it would be useful to get straight in!

Thanks,

proober

I'm in exactly the same boat - and just assuming it's because somebody's swapped the handle and/or lock barrel for one that uses a different key - which I don't have...

Well the sliding door lock will come off without too much trouble. Id start there if I were you as no one can second guess this. Once you have it on a bench you can start to get some idea of whats going on.

lock can be stripped and cleaned and retumbled to suit the key

Well it's raining so I thought I'd tackle this job, got a replacement door handle to swap out for my snapped one but try as I might, I can't get the damn lock out. I've drilled out the crudded up retainer screw with a 3mm bit but nothing budges. I've cleaned it down with a wire brush and had it sat in a jar of engine degreaser for a week. oh I don't have the key for the donor handle.
any ideas? :?

Keys can be cut to match the existing tumblers also - although I go with Aidan, better to match yer locks to exisiting keys
