ABS problem

Post by ninja.turtle007 »

At very slow speeds the brakes come on by themselves and sometime I get a whir from the abs.

New to ABS but I'm guessing dirty sensor? Any ideas please?

Sounds like the abs pump has a signal from one of the sensors saying that a wheel is locked on, so pushes the fluid to other corners. Not many vans with ABS and syncros have a different system to 2wd`s. I`m doing some research into the operation of the ABS at the moment trying to get my head around the in`s and out`s so i`ll be able to give a diagnostic to your issues soon.

It seems to happen more on full lock. Does that point to one if the front sensors?

The main question for me at the monument - is it safe to drive?

For now just pull the connection to the ABS ecu under the n/s seat, which will disconnect the electronics to the brakes and they will work normally.

Thanks Dave, will do. :ok

Not overly fussed about having ABS but if you can give me any pointers in the future it would be appreciated.

hi, if your abs pump is kicking in at low speed or as you come to a stop you may have cracked speed ring slipping on one of the drive shafts. check all 4 rings for cracks! :rofl

I disconnected the ECU tonight and all is well.

I'll have Look at the sensors in due course.

Thanks for the advice.
