Too much oil pressure!

I think Ive probably solved this problem, but I will run it past you knowledgable lot.
Last week I had no oil pressure which was solved by back filling the pump and cranking the engine over, then when I fired up the engine oil blasted out the flywheel oil seal. I assumed that was caused by excessive end float damaging the seal. But today, with end float sorted and new seal, engine back in motor and fired up, boom! out came the oil from flywheel seal again.
I know that there is supposed to be an "O" ring on the flywheel, but I have a drive plate and there is definitly no groove for one.
My therory for the problem is when I put the 2 halves of crankcase together I have blocked one of the oil ways with sealant Obvouily the one taking oil away from that area.
Any ideas? ( I enjoyed reading about sump plugs earlier, one of my favourite past times NOT).

Hi, i have the same problem regarding the rear crank seal, i rebuilt my motor & within minutes oil pissed every where, however i took the gearbox out this morning & flywheel off etc, i noticed the seal was damaged & i fitted the seal flush to the ends of the crankcases, but when i measured the depth where the seal fits it will go further in & am sure mine will be sorted, i think maybe you´ve got the same problem. infact i was pleased this morning when i stripped it & found the problem & some guys were saying the crankcase may be cracked....

seal is fitted flush with case but check that flywheel isn't scored on the seal surface where it runs

I changed the original oil seal on my DJ engine with a replacement from VW Heritage a few weeks ago. The new seal was a couple of millimeters thinner than the old seal. My measurements showed that for the lip of the new seal to run in the same position on the flywheel as the old seal, it had to be pushed in all the way beyond the end of the crankcase. This made perfect sense as otherwise the retainer ring behind the seal also would not be against it in order to do its job.

Been running the van on a daily basis since then with no problems.

i agree with you there, i´ve measured everything, & the seal will work better pushed all the way in, my flywheel damaged the seal, & on measuring yesterday i found it will go in another 3 or 4 mm...
