Camping, Portland , Dorset.

There seem to be no campsites listed for Portland, Dorset. Anyone found anywhere to camp wild or otherwise ?

If you go up past the prison, there is a 'wild' area where you could park up. We walked around it last time we were there and there was evidence of 'parties' and other goings on.

Totally your choice. We were staying at East Fleet Farm, on recommendation from Kev the rev, where we met 4 other members. :D

I was down that area a few weeks back. Went to Portland and up the top where the prison and old MOD(?) base. There was a decent park up area and in principle you could wild camp there...
However, I've got to be honest (and sound a bit soft) and say it had a bit of a weird vibe about it...and I wouldn't have stopped overnight there.

We stayed over at a farm at the top of the hill down to Branscombe and a Camping and Caravan club site in Moreton (nice as a base but a bit boring...no views etc) but it did have a railway station right next to it.

If you have never been I highly recommend going to Brownsea (20 min ferry trip from Poole - foot passengers only)

You can camp overnight in the car park of the Ferry Bridge pub which is on the RHS just as you start to drive down Chesil Beach from the Weymouth end. £5 a night last time I stopped over.

Thanks all. Ferry Bridge Pub sounds an interesting proposition and worth knowing about for fishing trips. But her indoors likes it "sur l'herbe " with Loos etc., Guess I do as well. So I guess its East Fleet again with its horrendous road hump on the approach lane .
