Rusty Gutter repair

Post by foggygolf »

Hi

Any advice on the best way to repair my rusty gutters?

They seem pretty sturdy and no actual holes but very rusty in places, i'm new to all of this and reluctant to get the grinder out on these. What would you suggest? The plan is to prep the bodywork and give it a "roller job" already purchased the VACTAN (said in Super Hero Voice)!!!

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Rich

Go over it gently with a flap disc in a grinder, or get a wire wheel for a drill and see if that removes the rust. :ok

Buy a 36-40 for real nasty stuff (not your gutters) get a few,say 60/80 and a 120.
Take care with the wire wheels, they work but keep a good grip as they can grab and they do wind your bits up if they get a hold

hi foggy golf ,
ive started doing mine ,dug out old sealant with chisel and hammer, reworked the inside of the gutter with a wire wheel in a cordless drill ,then treated with oxycon (like rustkill ) then filled holes with p40 fibreglass paste and refilled gutters with sikoflex512 . this took me all day saturday and ive only done one side and the bit above the windscreen !!! ,
next once i have got the other side to same level will be to prime and topcoat with rattle cans .
hope this helps its a gruler of a job getting the old sealant out ,
good luck :ok
