fitting light over passenger door

Post by scottbott »

started pressing the headlining around roughly where the light should go and it felt like there is a "soft maybe plastic thin cover" that pushes in slightly when pushed,I do not want to cut the headlining until I have a light to fit in place, should the hole be already there and is it covered over with a blanking cover type of thing?hope that makes sense, thanks

The hole is already there and as you have worked out it has a plastic blank in it.

Liking the strip light kev, was thinking of 1 myself! A couple of questions, how long is your strip light? Is one enough and where did you get it?? I was looking at some lab craft ones on eBay but about £30 for 720mm long (look nice though).

Cheers

I have recently carrried out exactly this modification of installing a passenger side courtesy light. I prefer the standard VW light fitting as I'd rather the cab area retain the appearence of a 'cab' and that the lights can work off either of the doors opening, or simply switched 'ON' or 'OFF' depending on the switch position. I also fitted all the van courtesy lights with the LED replacements for the old style standard filament lamps as discussed in the link below. I'm liking it a lot :D

It's just longer than the slider.
It comes in four pieces so you can put some elsewhere.
I got this from Ikea, and you can choose the colour. £39
