What is this gasket called?

Post by mr toaks »

Hi all,

Just bought an air cooled T25, which is a 2000cc twin carb (so I've been told).

I have an oil leak from one of the gaskets, which when you look at it, is completely shot, this is about the extent of my knowledge..

It's booked in next week with Berkshire Bugs for a good going over, but if I can get this gasket replaced in the meantime and stop her dripping it would be great, please see picture below, it's a small cover, almost looks like a rocker cover and is secured in place by a metal bar that clips over the top... Can anyone tell me what this is called so I can get the right gasket?

Any help on this is really appreciated

Thanks, Joe

Bear in mind that is not a T25 CU Engine block, it is a CJ out of a Bay window.

Thanks Bigherb

As previously said I haven't a clue on these engines but am eager to learn, I can't even find one of these gaskets on the net!

I am going to a local VW show at the weekend (Dubs in the Park) so I'll hopefully pick one up there.

Try Just Kampers Bay section ... http://www.justkampers.com/shop/t2-bay-window in the old 2005 JK catalogue I have here @werk they list that gasket as being part of an engine gasket set part # J10136 if that helps.

You can make gaskets out of gasket material draw around the remains of the old one, there are gloopy type gasket in a tube too like Hylomar.

Rockin'... Done and ordered, thanks for the help everyone it's nice to know there's people that care! 8)

Are you supposed to line the gaskets with a bit of oil when fitting to help create a seal, or does it go on dry?

Thanks, Joe

Hello,

Your crankcase breather also makes for easy oil filling, click, pop, pour, pop, click.

Standard cork gasket, on the web, also from the states.

Cordialement,

No just a thin smear of grease if you need to hold it in place when fitting it.
