rust treat and wire brush, or grind all off?

Post by xpress »

what's the best/preferred method, to rust treat and wire brush, repeat, repeat, resulting in clean metal and clean pits, or grind all off with smooth metal with indented areas?

Well Id be a little carefull, grind/sand yes but you will often remove too much metal before you get to the bottom of the vallies of rust (sounds welsh) and taking away good metal is not good
Better get twisted wire brush for grinder and also a straight one and you can give it some serious death with that, also an assorment of sharp pointy things to get in and cut back some of the factory sealant then wire tool again, i Use a worn cutting disc , very thin flexi ones to just touch in there, got to be carefull though, then vactan and so forth

if your welding new metal in ( the proper way) then no need to grind it get a knotted wire wheel in ya grinder and go for it once you find flat clean solid metal then cut it there !
