Caravelle 1600td sits very high help please guys

Post by norman »

:rollin :rollin hi my 1986 1600 td caravelle sits very high, there is clearance of 6 inches at the front and just under that at the rear , I dont know if this was a factory option or has been done later, I would like it lower but not too low which is the cheaper option for springs standard or -45 mm also would i have to change shocks as mine seem fine.
can anyone advise and any idea of cost , the bus is not going to be worked hard just as a daily driver m,ainly local as it is diesel is there any difference. could somebody advise please.

hi,
i cant help you with the lowering info, ive been striving to make mine higher all the time!
However, i just wanted to say your post title is misleading, as a doka is a double cab pickup, not a caravelle.

hope you find the info you need, maybe editing your title will get you the many answers im sure are just waiting round the corner.....

are your rear springs intact? if so then maybe fitted with different ratings on either axle. Brickwerks do a range of springs Bilstiens seem to get a good rating for the shocks, pick your height for the set of springs and bend over for the credit card bill.

My '88 caravelle sits real high too. Not quite 6" but fairly high.

Its nice not having to worry about dragging its belly along anything though as theres more clearance underneath the sump than a landrover has under its differential. :D

What tyres are you running as smaller diameter ones will increase the wheelarch to tyre gap?

Seems a common issue with Caravelles. Mine is the same. I presume its higher as it was meant for carrying 7 plus luggage. I fitted 15" merc wheels which helped reduced the effect visually but in the end it comes down to preference as I really like the additional height whereas others like all this lowered business.

Higher the better.

I have great fun down dirt tacks round here, where cars fear to tread.
