Lucky I never got them Trailing arm bolts ordered.
They came straight out, no hassles at all.

Hi, I'm trying to change a syncro rear suspension bush at the moment. Got old one out, first attempt to pull a new one in using threadbar not too great :(. I've not got the special tool and cannot see how the bush is going to go in just by brute force. As you try to draw the bush in, it expands and it looks like the mushroom will be ripped off before it goes into the hole.

-Is it possible to explain a bit more about the tubing you used, Did it taper inside somehow? Any chance of a picture or some idea of the dimensions?

-Did you use normal grease, or is there something better?

cheers

It's a pig of a job and you need to use red rubber grease to get the things to get all slippyslippy...it's still no joke, even with helping hands.

Tar for the grease info.

Is it worth taking the arm to a local mechanic friend with a press , or are we likely to mess it up without VAG 3053?

I may just buy VAG 3053. Is this intended to be used on it's own or is there another piece you need between the press and the new bush? If so what VAG number is it?

cheers

Poor mans VAG 3053: 80mm length of 41mm inside diameter exhaust pipe with a pre flaired end. Basically a free off cut from an old exhaust. Cleaned the inside of flare up with emery paper. Not the perfect long taper but works absolutely fine with a bit of trial and error. I pulled in with with 12mm threadbar instead of a press. Worth getting a few bits of bigger diameter pipe too.

Did outer bushes in situ on the van. Only did because I wanted to adjust camber and outer bolts where seized.

Too lazy to take arms off and bleed brakes. Plus when I do that I'll save up the dosh and get the arms plated ...
